Important Dates

In collaboration with Prof. Steven Nutt (University of Southern California, Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science) and Prof. Dr. Dietmar Koch (University of Augsburg, Chair of Materials Engineering), we are hosting the Wolfgang Hillen Summer School 2023 from September 9 to 16. This is sponsored by the Bavarian-California Center for Higher Education (BaCaTeC).

Based on the competences of the industrial partners and the universities, knowledge gaps will be closed, and new topics highlighted. The aim of this Summer School is to bring the participants up to date with the latest international research on CMC. Particularly noteworthy are the participants from the U.S. industry (Axiom Materials and NASA), who will give the unique opportunity to make direct contact or network with the world's leading experts on CMC.

Lectures by the experts will be offered face-to-face and additionally online. During the poster session PhDs and students can address their topics. On site, there will be the opportunity, to see the manufacture and testing of ceramic matrix composites and to gain experience in the laboratory and on high-temperature equipment. The highlight is a planned excursion to MT Aerospace and MTU Aero Engines. At the end of the course, participants will receive a certificate of participation.

To continue the cooperation between the universities from California and Bavaria, a Summer School 2024 is planned in Los Angeles at USC, which will also benefit the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB). Other companies from California, such as Boeing Space & Defence and Rolls Royce, will be invited to the 2024 Summer School.
