Research cooperation with India to recycle ceramic powder
April 15th 2025

Last week we had our kick-off meeting for the international project “TRANSFORM”. The project is funded for a period of three years by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the government of India. The project is part of the 2+2 initiative of the Indo-German Science and Technology Center (IGSTC). Collaborating partners are the Chair of Ceramic Materials at the University of Bayreuth, the company QSIL Ingenieurkeramik GmbH as well as the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) and the company Carborundum Universal Limited (CUMI). Prof. Dr. Günter Motz and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ravi Kumar are the project leaders.
In the project, high-quality industrial silicon carbide and silicon nitride ceramic waste will be recycled in an environmentally friendly manner to manufacture suitable products. Thus, the project establishes a framework to return these valuable materials to the economic cycle.
We would like to thank Prof. Ravi Kumar N V (IIT Madras), Dr. Ulrich Degenhardt (QSIL), Dr. Santanu Mandal (CUMI) and Dr. Poly Rose (IIT Madras) for their visit and look forward to this new project.
